Hot for tots

Don't worry about what to do with younger children when you are on holiday. There's a wealth of activities and attractions to choose from that will keep them active and interested, and having fun! Here are some ideas that perhaps you hadn't thought of...

Check out Tobermory, the colourful capital of the Isle of Mull, and the real Balamory. Selected for the BBC Children's TV programme because of its unusual multi-coloured houses, this is a beautiful spot and an ideal base for the family. The programme is based around what happens in each coloured house and many of the them actually exist in and around the town. One of the main attractions used for filming was Mull Narrow Gauge Railway, which runs between Craignure ferry terminal and Torosay Castle.

On those sunny days when you want to be out and about, there's plenty of theme parks and country parks to explore. From Landmark Forest Theme Park in the Highlands with rope climbing and a red squirrel trail, to Loudoun Castle Family Theme Park in the South of Scotland, set in 500 acres of countryside beside the majestic ruins of Loudoun Castle. Or for something really magical that will spark their imagination and give them memories to treasure forever, why not check out Storybook Glen where their favourite nursery rhymes and fairytales are brought to life.

Even a good old-fashioned trip to the zoo can be a real treat, Edinburgh Zoo has the only koalas in the UK as well as the famous penguin parade! If you are feeling a little more adventurous there are lots of other wildlife watching opportunities all across Scotland, whether you want to see a red squirrel or a bottlenosed dolphin.
